Connie Lo | Three Ships Co-Founder
Connie is the Co-Founder of Three Ships (formerly NIU BODY), a vegan skincare line based in Toronto. She's inspired by Japan, went caving in the Phong Nha jungle in Vietnam, and loves 'The Untethered Soul' (the best book!) and a good high intensity workout. Read on to find out more about Connie and why a special ring motivates her to persevere.
How do you describe what you do?
I'm the co-founder of a natural skincare company, Three Ships. We're on a mission to make natural beauty accessible for all women, with 100% natural, vegan, and effective skincare all under $40. At Three Ships, I manage all aspects of marketing, branding and sales! I absolutely LOVE my job and can't imagine anything else I'd rather be doing.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
I'm a big fan of light, movement and hydration! I always open my blinds right away to wake up with the sun, followed by lemon water to re-hydrate, and some sort of movement. Right now I'm loving the Insanity HIIT workouts and running outdoors.
Where is your favourite destination in the world?
Ooh, this is so tough! As an avid traveller, there are so many places on my list, but if I had to choose one I'd say Tulum. I went there 2 years ago and fell in love with the music culture, delicious food, and beautiful natural sights!
Which country have you traveled to that inspired you most?
Japan. Their attention to detail and beauty is unparalleled.
Is there an adventure that changed your life?
Definitely my caving trip in Vietnam! We went right before the Covid-19 lockdown. We spent 3 days in the Phong Nha jungle and explored 400 million year old caves. It was the most strenuous and rewarding hiking adventure I've ever been on!
What’s your favourite way to stay active?
In the summer, I love walking. I'm one of those people that will walk 2 hours to go to brunch with a friend on the other side of the city! Overall, I really enjoy high intensity workouts like boxing, Barry's Bootcamp, and Insanity.
What’s an adventure you’re excited to take?
I just bought a house and am moving in a week, which is super exciting! Finally all my Pinterest dreams can come true.
Is there a book that’s changed your life?
The Untethered Soul - Michael A. Singer
Is there a career/personal accomplishment you’re proud of?
I read a quote the other day that really resonated with me. It said something like, "my proudest achievement is becoming the woman that I used to look up to." I'm personally very proud of myself for taking the leap with my startup and going against the traditional corporate route. When I was younger, I used to compare myself so often to what my peers were doing, and was never satisfied with what I had achieved. I'm so grateful for all my personal growth over these past few years and the self-confidence I've discovered to forge my own path.
Is there a cause you’re passionate about?
I'm truly passionate about supporting young women in starting their own businesses. I had the good fortune of having visibility into entrepreneurship as a young child, learning a lot from my entrepreneurial father, as well as from my own startup endeavours in high school. Had it not been for these experiences, I might have never pursued a more entrepreneurial path. Recognizing this, I'm really passionate about using my experience to empower and encourage other young women to create their own dream businesses.
Do you have a piece of jewelry that’s sentimental to you?
Most definitely. My mom gave me a diamond ring a couple years ago. It was given to her by my dad when he first started making money after he moved to Canada as an immigrant. To me, it represents all the grit and determination my parents faced raising us, and motivates me every time I wear it to persevere.
