Emily Oliveira Founder of Nu Beauty

Emily is the founder of Nu Beauty, a brand she started after dealing with her own skin issues. She believes that to be a successful entrepreneur you need self discipline, self motivation and the ability to fail fast and fail cheap. Read on to read more about Emily!

How do you describe what you do?

I basically am always hyping up self care (however that looks for you). Everyones different and requires different levels of self care. I’m that person to challenge you to figure out what that means to YOU and then hype you up to do it. I also create product(s) to incorporate into your self care routine to give your skin that extra love.

What’s your favourite thing about what you do?

My favourite thing is waking up in the morning and realizing I get to work on my brand Nu Beauty. You know when you open your eyes and you realize it’s another day to just do what you love and sets your soul on fire. Yeah, that’s my favourite feeling.

How did you get your idea for the brand?

I went through a really bad adult acne phase and became obsessed with skincare, health and wellness. I researched ingredients, diet and morning routines until I found something that worked with ME. Then I figured “might as well share this with the rest of the world so I can at least change one person’s life”.

What’s your vision for your brand? Where do you want to take it?

I want to have a skincare line that’s simple and easy to use - regardless if you know NOTHING about skincare or EVERYTHING about skincare.

Is there a career/personal accomplishment you’re proud of?

I’m proud of quitting my corporate job to take Nu Beauty full time. It didn’t happen overnight but I’m happy to be here, in this moment, and excited to see where I can take the brand!

What would you say are the top three skills needed to become an entrepreneur?

Self discipline, self motivation, the ability to fail fast and fail cheap.

Which country have you traveled to that inspired you most?

Portugal. Felt like home.

Is there an adventure that changed your life?

Yes - I decided to take my Instagram seriously when I was in Maui, Hawaii! I was on the beach taking a photo and someone came up to me and asked if I was a blogger. I said no but then I thought, I guess I could be.

What’s your favourite way to recharge/relax? Favourite way to stay active?

Favourite way to recharge is coffee, nature walk, light stretch, and binge watching a show with my mom.

Favourite way to stay active is pilates!

Is there a book that’s changed your life?

The Four Agreements. 10/10 would recommend to a friend!

Do you have a piece of jewelry that’s sentimental to you?

Yes, my boyfriend gave me a gold necklace with my name in Arabic and I never take it off!
