Kristina Pittam | Founder of La Reyna
Kristina is a creator and founder of womenswear label La Reyna. She opens up about the challenges of entrepreneurship, why she’s passionate about health and wellness, and why she’ll be heading to Bali for her next adventure! Read on to find out more about her.
How do you describe what you do?
I am a creator and entrepreneur, founder of womenswear label La Reyna.
What would you say are the top three skills needed to become an entrepreneur?
Is there a career (or personal) accomplishment you’re proud of?
I am very proud of the personal development and self-awareness I’ve built up through the process of starting my own business. You really aren’t aware of what it’s like to be an entrepreneur and endure the level of independence or loneliness you go through until you are starting your own business. Building a business is twice as hard and takes twice as long as you could have imagined, and you really need to be in it for the right reasons if you are keen to stick through the emotional rollercoaster.
What’s your vision for your brand? Where do you see it going?
It’s been a long and windy path navigating my business and its growth trajectory. La Reyna was initially intended to be a womenswear brand that focused exclusively on crafting supportive bodysuits, but since the height of COVID-19 we pivoted our business and have launched three other product lines. That is to say we are constantly evolving with the times but specifically listening to what it is our customers want to see from us. A current goal of ours is to expand into wholesale on luxury retail e-commerce platforms and have that work in conjunction with our exclusive e-commerce website.
Where is your favourite destination in the world?
Which country have you traveled to that inspired you most?
It’s a hard choice but usually places where I feel a surge of inspiration and invincibility within myself. Some of my favourites are New York City, Los Angeles, London, and Costa Rica.
What’s an adventure you’re excited to take (maybe when COVID is over)?
I think I’ll be headed to Bali. I really want to embark on a relaxing adventure where I can unplug, reflect, and be in nature.
What’s your favourite way to recharge/relax?
I love going for a walk or working out, it’s the easiest way for me to relax.
Is there a book that’s changed your life?
The Daily Stoic by Ryan Holiday is a book I consistently go to, and read a passage every day from, that gives me perspective and keeps me grounded. It’s a continuous reminder to live in a more stoic way.
Is there a cause you’re passionate about?
I am passionate about health and wellness. It’s something that is top of mind everyday and an essential part of my daily routine. From mental wellness to healthy food choices to daily fitness practices, all of them are a priority for me and I believe are crucial to live optimally and to live a long life.
Do you have a piece of jewelry that’s sentimental to you?
I have two pieces of jewelry that are sentimental to me. The first is a gold chain that was my moms, which she used to wear a lot (with a pendant that I removed) when she was in her 20s. The second piece of jewelry is a chain with two charms on it that was my great grandmothers, passed down to my grandmother, and now passed down to me. I often layer gold chains and love wearing these two together, along with a few additional others.
