Lauren Pearson | Artist
Lauren is an artist who has worked with clients including Google, Amex, and Saks Fifth Avenue. After a trip to Mexico City, she was so inspired by the design and aesthetic there that she launched a few pieces that catapulted her illustration career.
How do you describe what you do?
I am a commercial and custom artist, creating artwork for brand campaigns and individual clients around the world. Starting out with mostly watercolour paintings, I have expanded my business to include digital illustration (used for things like packaging, websites, branding, etc), graphic design, and live painting at events.
What’s the first thing you do in the morning?
I start each morning with a quick guided meditation followed by a walk with my dog. After that I spend around 30 minutes editing my to do list that I create the day before and answering emails
Where is your favourite destination in the world?
My favourite destination would definitely be Japan! I visited the country last year with my boyfriend and we loved stepping off the plane into what feels like a completely different world. It has everything that we look for when travelling; like amazing culture, food, and style. It was impossible to see the whole country in just a few weeks so I am excited to get back there to explore the cities that we were unable to get to.
Which country have you traveled to that inspired you most?
I started my illustration career right before a trip to Mexico City and was so inspired by the design and aesthetic there that I launched a few pieces when I returned home. I would say that those really kick started my segway into this industry. The museums, food and architecture are some of the best in the world in my opinion!
Is there an adventure that changed your life?
During my last year of university I decided to complete a semester abroad in Melbourne Australia. I moved knowing absolutely no one and it taught me how independant I was. Before leaving I had interned at quite a few corporate companies that I could not picture a future with, and so this time away allowed me to reflect and understand that I would be happiest working for myself.
What’s your favourite way to stay active?
My all time favourite work out is Lagree! It is one of the only workouts that I leave feeling immediately toned and I am missing it so much during the quarantine. I am also grateful to have a very athletic dog that I will jog with or take on long walks.
What’s an adventure you’re excited to take?
I have always wanted to visit Morocco! It is another colourful city with incredible food and design that I can't wait to explore. It will be the first trip I book once we are allowed to travel again!
Is there a book that’s changed your life?
Yes! The Four Agreements by Don Miguel is a classic book that breaks down the fundamentals of life into four pillars. It really helped me with limiting negative self talk and never taking anything personally. This is especially important when you run your own business because you have to overcome hurdles quickly and have the resilience to get up and try again without emotionally destroying yourself when things do not work out.
Is there a career/personal accomplishment you’re proud of?
There have been lots, and working with dream companies like Google, Amex, and Saks Fifth Avenue definitely top the list! Most recently I have responded to covid by creating a Free Colouring Book that can be printed by children and adults at home. Any donations that are sent in are forwarded to the Canadian Food Bank to support families in need. I feel so lucky that I am able to work during this time and I want to make sure I can help as many people as I can.
